PROPERTIES AND
PRECAUTIONS:
B.P.. is insoluble in water , slightly
soluble in alcohol and soluble in acetone , benzene , chloroform , ether
etc .B.P. in dry state being auto-explosive is supplied as wet powder
to make it reasonably safe against shocks and fires . It should be kept
away from heat and fire . It should be stored in cool place and away from
possible contact with certain metals ,S compounds , N derivatives C reducing
agents .strong alkalies will induce decomposition of BP handle it in plastic
or glass containers.
Disposal of BP may be affected by careful burning of small quantities
in the open or by adding 10 times its weight of 10% caustic soda solution
and leave till all burning stops.
USES:
BP being a good source of free radicals
is used as an initiator in polymerisation of acrylics , vinyl-acetate
, styrene etc. its oxidising property is used in decolourisation of oils
, fats , waxes , flour etc.
PACKING:
50 kg fiber drums for powders and 30kg
jars for paste
